"Approved" means SASSA approved your SRD application for that month. Payment is normally planned for approved months. Approval is given per month, so approval for one month does not guarantee approval for the next. Keep your cellphone number active so you receive SASSA's feedback, and deal with payment or banking questions only through the official portal or the toll-free call centre.
What approved means
An approved status is good news, but it comes with one important limit: it applies to the month shown. SASSA checks your application for each month separately. A month shown as approved is not a promise that every future month will be approved too.
Approval also does not mean payment happened the same day. There can be a gap between the approval decision and the actual payment. That is normal in a month-by-month system.
Please treat this as general guidance, not an official definition. SASSA has not published an official definition of "approved" on the pages we could access. Only the official portal can show your real status.
How you get paid
Here is what is verified from the official pages we could access:
- Banking information is collected as part of the SRD application. That is what the official portal confirms.
- SASSA sends application feedback to the mobile number you supplied when you applied. Watch for messages from SASSA about your application.
What we could not verify: the specific payment methods (such as bank deposits or cash collection points) and the official procedure for submitting or changing banking details. We will not describe them as facts, because that would be inventing information. If you need to know how your payment will be made, check the official SRD portal or call the official call centre on 0800 601 011 (toll-free).
For more on this topic, see our payment dates guide and our banking details guide.
Keep your bank details updated
Your banking details must be correct for payment to reach you. Because we could not verify the official procedure for submitting or changing bank details, here is the safe approach:
- Only use the official portal at https://srd.sassa.gov.za for anything related to your banking details, or call 0800 601 011 (toll-free) for help.
- Never give your banking details to a third-party website, a "helper" who contacts you, or anyone who promises to fast-track your payment. That is a scam setup.
Your cellphone number matters too. To update the mobile number where SASSA reaches you, call 0800 601 011 — that is the verified official route. If SASSA cannot reach your number, you may miss important feedback about your payment.
Approved but no payment date
An approved month does not always come with a payment date right away. The decision and the payment are two separate steps, and the payment step can take time.
If your month shows approved but no payment date is shown:
1. Wait and check again later. Payment details can appear after the approval decision.
2. Check the official portal's Application status section at https://srd.sassa.gov.za for any updates on that month.
3. Make sure your cellphone number is active. SASSA sends feedback to the mobile number you supplied, and a missed message can look like silence.
4. Confirm your banking details are correct through the official portal or the call centre — never through a third party.
If a long time passes with no payment and no updates, call the toll-free call centre on 0800 601 011 and ask about that specific month. We could not verify any official payment-date schedule, so we cannot tell you how long the wait "should" be.
Check every month
This is the single most important habit: check your status for every month on the official portal. Approval is month by month. A new month can be approved, pending, or declined regardless of what happened last month.
Make this a routine:
- Check the Application status section at https://srd.sassa.gov.za regularly, and watch for SASSA's feedback messages on your phone.
- If a month shows declined, you have the right to appeal each declined month. Read our declined status guide for details.
FAQs
Does approved mean the money is in my account?
Not necessarily. Approval is the decision; payment is a separate step that can follow later. Check the official portal for payment updates and keep your cellphone active for SASSA's feedback.
I was approved last month. Will I be approved this month?
Not automatically. The SRD system checks each month separately. Always check the current month's status on the official portal.
Can I change my banking details myself?
We could not verify the official procedure for changing banking details from the pages we could access. Do it only through the official portal at https://srd.sassa.gov.za or by calling 0800 601 011 (toll-free). Never use a third-party site.
How will I know when my payment is made?
SASSA sends application feedback to the mobile number you supplied when you applied. Keep that number active. You can also check the official portal's Application status section for updates.
My status was approved but now it says declined. What happened?
Statuses are per month. A different month may have been declined even though an earlier month was approved. Read the reason shown for the declined month, and remember you have the right to appeal each declined month. If another month is still waiting, see the pending status guide.
What to do next
1. Confirm your approval is for the current month on the official portal.
2. Keep your cellphone number active so you receive SASSA's feedback.
3. Make sure the banking details on your application are correct — use only the official portal or call centre.
4. Check your status again next month, since approval is month by month.
5. If a month is declined, use the appeal guide.
