How to Contact SASSA

350StatusCheck is an independent informational website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by SASSA or the South African government.

This page lists only contact channels we have verified on official SASSA pages. We do not list phone numbers, WhatsApp numbers, or email addresses that we could not verify.

Toll-free helpline 0800 601 011

The official SASSA toll-free helpline is 0800 601 011. It is also sometimes written as 0800 60 1011 — this is the same number.

Use this helpline for questions about applications, payments, or your grant status. Calls to a toll-free number are free from most phones.

Be patient: the helpline can be busy, especially around payment dates. Try calling early in the morning if the lines are full.

Updating your cellphone number

Applicants supply a mobile number so SASSA can send them feedback about their application. If your number has changed, you should update it with SASSA so you keep receiving messages.

To update your number, call the toll-free helpline on 0800 601 011 and follow the instructions given. Do not give your number or your ID number to any other website, person, or message thread claiming to update it for you.

Never share one-time PINs (OTPs) with anyone. SASSA will never ask you to share an OTP with a stranger.

Finding a SASSA office

We do not publish a list of office addresses on this site. Office details change, and we cannot verify every address from official sources.

To find your nearest SASSA office, use the official channels:

  • The official SRD portal: https://srd.sassa.gov.za
  • The official services portal: https://services.sassa.gov.za/portal/r/sassa/sassa/home
  • The toll-free helpline: 0800 601 011

These sources will point you to the correct, current office information.

Which channels to trust

Only trust contact channels that appear on official SASSA pages. The rule is simple:

  • Trust: websites ending in .gov.za, and the verified helpline 0800 601 011.
  • Do not trust: phone numbers, WhatsApp numbers, and email addresses forwarded on social media, in SMS messages, or on unofficial websites.

Many WhatsApp numbers and email addresses circulate online claiming to be SASSA. We do not list them on this page because we could not verify them on official pages. If someone gives you a number that is not on an official SASSA page, treat it as suspicious.

Scam warning

Scammers target grant applicants. Protect yourself with these rules:

  • SASSA never asks you to pay a fee to apply, check your status, or release a payment.
  • Do not click links in SMS or WhatsApp messages that claim to be from SASSA unless you can verify the address is official.
  • Do not enter your ID number or banking details on unofficial websites.
  • If an offer sounds too good to be true, or someone pressures you to act fast, stop and check through an official channel first.

If you think you have been targeted by a scam, contact the real SASSA helpline on 0800 601 011 and consider reporting it to the police.
